Community Notification – Parking Loss Due to Crane for Track Repairs on Astoria Line

Good Afternoon,

The MTA Division of Track (In-House Capital Construction) will be performing mainline track repairs on the Astoria Line, between the 36th & 39th Ave Stations, in the borough of Queens. 

This project is scheduled for (4) consecutive weekends, commencing on Friday, April 8th, 2022, and ending on Sunday, May 1st, 2022.  Scheduled working hours will be as follows: 06:00 -16:00 hours on Fridays for preparatory work which consist of, but not limited to the staging of Street Cranes, Track Panels and related materials at the Crane sites listed below, and from 05:00-21:00 hours on Saturdays and Sundays for the removal & installation of mainline track panels. 

Over these weekends Manhattan-bound N trains skip 30 Av, Broadway, 36 Av and 39 Av-Dutch Kills Sat 3:45 AM to Sun 10:00 PM, Apr 9 – May 1

For service to these stations, take the N to Queensboro Plaza and transfer to an Astoria-bound N.

For service from these stations, take the N to Astoria Blvd and transfer to a Manhattan-bound N.   

NYCT will have a maximum of (2) Cranes placed adjacent to the elevated structure for hoisting and lowering of track panels and materials at the locations listed below. Crane locations will be determined by the section of track being replaced. Maximum of (2) Street closures in effect at a time.

NYCDOT approved flagging and traffic devices will be utilized for the safety of the public.  Parking will be restricted on 31st Street, between 36th & 40th Ave to allow traffic diversions. Parking will also be restricted for 150’ ft. along each curb lane at each Crane location for placement of a mobile Crane and related track materials. 

Crane Locations & Potential Road Closures: 

  1. 37th Ave, between 31st St & 30th St.  (Closed 06:00-16:00 Friday / 05:00-21:00 Saturday & Sunday)   
  2. 38th Ave, between 31st St & 30th St.  (Closed 06:00-16:00 Friday / 05:00-21:00 Saturday & Sunday)
  3. 39th Ave, between 31st St & 30th St.  (Closed 06:00-16:00 Friday / 05:00-21:00 Saturday & Sunday)

31st Ave Traffic Impact:     

  • Northbound: Will run normal “against the normal” direction on the S/B lane.
  • Southbound: Will be diverted onto 30th St, between 35th Ave & 40th Ave.

On occasion, due to a combination of the service demands of the community, safety considerations and the welfare of the public, some phases of track construction are limited to special operating hours.
